Head of School's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week, we were pleased to welcome the School Effectiveness Adviser from Hertfordshire to Oxhey.
As with previous visits, she was very happy with the quality of practice she observed across the school. On this occasion, she was particularly impressed by the way staff interacted with the children and by the strong emphasis on developing oracy and vocabulary.
She noted how carefully staff modelled and extended language, introducing new words and supporting children to rehearse and apply them in meaningful contexts. She also commented positively on the quality of interactions between staff and children, as well as the rich conversations the children were having with each other. This reflects the hard work and commitment of our staff team in creating a language‑rich environment where every child is encouraged to talk, question, listen and share ideas.
In the same week, we have also introduced our new “No Mobile Phone Site” approach. Clear signs have been placed around the school to remind everyone of this expectation. We kindly ask that you support us by observing this when you are on the premises.
One of the most important times of the day for your child is collection time. They will often have been looking forward to seeing you and talking with you from the moment you said goodbye in the morning. We therefore encourage you to be ready to interact with your child, to ask about their day, to share any special or interesting things that have happened to you, and to listen to what they have experienced and enjoyed in school.
Please help us to make this a special, focused time by avoiding the use of mobile phones on site. By giving your child your full attention at collection, you are reinforcing how valued they are and supporting the strong home–school partnership that is so important for their wellbeing and learning. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Success Story of the Week!
Dear Parents,
This week, we are very excited to share a special success story from our Nursery: our much‑loved African land snail, Sid, is finally returning from his winter hibernation.
Over the colder months, Sid has been carefully looked after by Lucy, who has made sure he stayed safe, warm and comfortable.
Sid has not yet fully emerged from his hibernation, but he is slowly waking up and beginning to show more signs of activity. He has also been enjoying some delicious fresh lettuce, kindly provided by Wendy in the office, which seems to be tempting him out a little more each day.
At the moment, we are just making sure that Sid’s enclosure is fully restocked and set up with everything he needs to be healthy and happy. Once we are confident that his environment is ready, Sid will be returning to Nursery so that the children can enjoy observing him once again.
We are looking forward to the children having the opportunity to watch Sid move, explore and eat, and to talk about his long winter rest.
This will be a lovely way to support their curiosity about living things, seasons and changes in nature.
We can’t wait to welcome Sid back properly and to see the children’s excitement as they rediscover their Nursery snail and help to take care of him together.

All absences must be reported to the school either by leaving an absence message or emailing admin@oeyc.herts.sch.uk, We politely ask that if you plan to take your child out during school time, you notify the Nursery office. For appointments, we ask where possible that these are not during the school day. If this is not avoidable, please kindly share the relevant information for this appointment in order for us to be able to authorise this. Regular attendance at Nursery is very important, as it helps children build the foundational knowledge and skills they will need as they move through school. Establishing good attendance habits now supports a smoother transition into primary school and helps ensure children develop positive routines that will benefit them throughout their educational journey. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child attend regularly and on time.
